Q) My mother has high blood pressure ( 150/100). when we visited the doctor he said pedal edema positive. May i know what is pedal edema any posibilities to cure.
A) Pedal edema means collection of fluids in the feet most prominently on the upper surface of feet. It may occur in many conditions. It is seen in many conditions. It is an outcome of underlying problems/diseases rather than a disease in itself. In simple terms pedal edema occur when there is a mismatch between the pressures which want to keep the fluid (water) inside the vessels and the pressure which tries to move the fluid outside. If the former isles or the latter is more it will result into pedal edema.
As I told it is a result of some underlying condition, so it is corrected once the condition is corrected.
One of its causes is hypertension, which through complex process may result into pedal edema. As your mother has high blood pressure, it may be causing it. But at the same time there may be other reasons. You must get her examined by a qualified physician. Earlier we start treatment better it is.
Hypertension is a condition which can be very well controlled, provided regular medicines are taken under supervision of your doctor.
