It is also called as Acetaminophen

 

Brand names available: Crocin, Calpol,  Pacimol

Uses of this medication:

Paracetomol is one of the most commonly used OTC for headache, muscular and skeletal pain, arthritis, cold and fever.

It is used to relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce fever.

Because it has minimal anti inflammatory activity, it can not be used to treat the swelling or stiffness resulting from rheumatoid arthritis.

How to use this medication:

This is taken orally with or with out food. It is available as a suspension for pediatric use. For children measure the dose with the cup comes with the bottle do not use the normal tea spoon.

Always remember to inform your health expert if you are taking any prescription or OTC medication.

Patient with acute alcoholism and hepatic disease need to inform the doctor.

Nausea, allergic reactions(swelling of lips, tongue, face) , skin rashes, fatigue.

Daily taking of this 5grams or more for longer than one month cause liver damage.

Acute doses of 10 grams or more are hepatotoxic.

 

Dosage and Missed Dose:

Dosage:

For Adults:

For analgesic and antipyretic the dosage is 500 to 1000mg three times daily. The maximum daily dose is 4000mg for not longer than 10 days for pain and 3 days for fever with out consulting the doctor.

For Children: 325 mg every 6 hours. The maximum daily dose is 1600mg for no longer than 5 days for pain, 3 days for fever with out consulting the doctor. or

Use as directed by your physician, your physician prescribe depending on the severity of disease.

Use the complete course of medication as prescribed by your physician even though you feel better after one or two days of usage of medication.

 

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at same time to cover up the missed dose.

 

Storage

 

This product should be stored at room temperature between (15-30 degrees C). Store it in a place where it won’t be exposed to excessive heat, moisture or direct sunlight never store in bathroom. Keep it out of reach of children. Make sure that any leftover portion is disposed of safely.

 

General information

 

Acetaminophen is generally used in patients who are

·        Sensitive to GI disturbances caused by salicylates and NSAID’s

·        Prone to bleeding disorders

·        Hypersensitive to salicylates
