Uses of this medication

Doxazosin is mainly used to treat high blood pressure and benign prostatic hyperplasia (Enlarged Prostate).

How to use this medication:

Doxazosin is take with full glass of water. This drug is used to lower blood pressure, it might lower than normal and cause dizziness or fainting. It is advisable to take this medication at bed time.

What you need to discuss with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication.

Doxazosin effects the pupil of the eye. It is advised to discuss with the doctor if have plan to undergo cataract surgery.

Always remember to inform your health expert if you are taking any prescription or OTC medication.

Inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medical conditions, allergies.

If you are planning to become pregnant and or breast-feeding pl. make sure you notify to your health expert.

Less common side effects are dizziness, headache , diarrhea.

If you observe serious side effects like allergic reactions ex. Hives, difficult breathing, swelling of the face pl. consult near emergency medical dept.

Dosage and Missed Dose:

Dosage:

For hypertension the dose for doxazosin is I mg at bed time. And your doctor adjust the dose after one or two weeks. The maintenance dose is 4mg daily.

For benign prostatic hyperplasia the doxazosin is given as 1 mg once daily. or

Use as directed by your physician, your physician prescribe depending on the severity of disease.

Use the complete course of medication as prescribed by your physician even though you feel better after one or two days of usage of medication.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at same time to cover up the missed dose.
 

Storage

This product should be stored at room temperature between (15-30 degrees C). Store it in a place where it won’t be exposed to excessive heat, moisture or direct sunlight never store in bathroom. Keep it out of reach of children. Make sure that any leftover portion is disposed of safely.

General information:

If you  feel dizziness it is advisable to take medication only at night time. There is a chance you feel dizzy when you wake in the morning, you have to be careful when you stand from lying position.

You need to have blood pressure check while taking doxazosin especially when you are taking this for benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Even you feel better and your blood pressure is under control you still need to continue the drug until your physician tells you stop the medication.
