Uses of this medication:

Butorphanol is used as analgesic to reduce moderate to severe pain.

Butorphanol  is used as a pre operative medication.

Butorphanol is also used for the pain in post operative conditions and in short lasting painful conditions like renal colic.

How to use this medication:

It is given by your doctor by intra-muscular, intra-venous route.

Inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medical conditions, allergies.

If you are planning to become pregnant or breast-feeding pl. make sure you notify to your health expert.

Sedation, Dizziness, Physical dependence, Psychological dependence, Headache, nausea, vomiting.

Dosage and Missed Dose:

Dosage:

For pre operative medication: Adult: 2 mg given 60 – 90 min before surgery.

For moderate to severe pain: Adult 0.5 – 2 mg by intra venous every 3 to 4 hours.

Use as directed by your physician, your physician prescribes depending on the severity of disease.

Use the complete course of medication as prescribed by your physician even though you feel better after one or two days of usage of medication.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at same time to cover up the missed dose

Storage:

Butorphanol should be stored at room temperature between (15-30 degrees C). Store it in a place where it won’t be exposed to excessive heat, moisture or direct sunlight never store in bathroom. Keep it out of reach of children. Make sure that any leftover portion is disposed of safely.

It causes physical dependence and withdrawal symptoms if it is stopped suddenly.
