Childrens health

There are ranges of health issues that affect children right from birth through to adolescent. In 2006, there were 9.6 million children in USA who had a health problem for which prescription medication had been taken regularly for at least 3 months.1

In developed countries, the children are affected by a number of diseases associated with exposure to environmental toxins such as air pollutants or chemicals as well as problems related to social issues, typical of the Western societies. In developing countries, children are affected both by diseases characteristic of under-developed situations as well as problems from urbanization and increased environmental degradation.

The health and well-being of children are directly linked to their parents’ physical and emotional health, social circumstances and child-rearing practices.2 The first 5 years of a child’s life are filled with major behavioral and developmental milestones that prepare the child to enter the world. A brief insight of the developmental milestones and various conditions that commonly affect children throughout their growth and development, including a comprehensive immunization schedule has been discussed in this article.
