What is acne?

Acne is a disorder of the skin’s oil glands (sebaceous glands). It results in plugged pores and outbreaks of lesions commonly called pimples or zits. Acne lesions usually occur on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders.

How should skin with acne be taken care?

The following tips will be helpful:

  • Clean skin gently
  • Avoid frequent handling of the skin
  • Shave carefully
  • Avoid sun tanning
  • Choose cosmetics carefully

What is a sebaceous cyst?

A sebaceous cyst is a closed sac present under the skin and contains a ‘pasty’ substance. A foul odor is also present in the substance called keratin, which fills sebaceous cysts. Keratin is a protein that creates the sac of cells called sebaceous cysts.

What are the symptoms of sebaceous cysts?

Symptoms of sebaceous cysts include:

  • Redness
  • Tenderness
  • Increased temperature of the skin over the bumps or lumps
  • Grayish white, foul smelling material draining from the bump or lump

Why do some teens abuse alcohol and drugs?

Personal, family, and community factors increase a teen’s risk for using substances and developing a substance abuse problem.

How can teens abuse to alcohol and drugs be prevented?

Efforts to prevent teen substance abuse should begin early in a child’s life with drug education, encouragement of healthy behaviors, and good family communication. Teens are more likely to use alcohol or drugs if their parent does; parental attitudes towards substance use also influence teen behavior. Having positive self-esteem, supportive family relationships, positive role models, learning communication and problem-solving skills help teens gain confidence to make good choices.

What are the emotional changes the teens undergo at puberty?

Along with physical changes, teens also experience emotional changes. Some of these changes include.

  • Experience moodiness: Changes in their estrogen levels can cause mood swings in females. Changes in their testosterone levels can cause mood swings in boys.
  • Concerned about how they look, how other people look and how they compare to self, and what other people think in general.
  • Feel awkward or embarrassed, especially in times of change.
  • Feel sexual attraction and arousal very easily.
  • Experience sexual curiosity and attraction in other people.
  • Emotional and react to situations more intensely than before.
  • Try to gain more independence from parents.
